Health Effects

PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) is a long-chain PFAS chemical linked to kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, liver damage, immune system suppression, and developmental problems in children. It stays in the body for years.

How PFOA Gets Into Water

Previously used in nonstick cookware (Teflon), food packaging, stain-resistant fabrics, and firefighting foam (AFFF). Contaminates groundwater near manufacturing sites, military bases, and airports.

How to Remove PFOA

Reverse osmosis (RO) systems remove up to 99% of PFOA. Activated carbon filters (especially granular activated carbon) and ion exchange resins are also effective.

Recommended: Reverse Osmosis (RO)

Reverse osmosis systems remove up to 99% of PFAS compounds. Recommended for homes with detected PFAS.
